What is this
A little web page I made for myself to help me decide what tv show etc to watch next. I've made it available for other people in case they might find it useful.
Since the recs are all based on what I happen to have in my backlog, it's probably most useful as a skeleton for someone to build their own better recs site on, but do whatever you like with it.
What the work categories mean
- Title: The title
- Rating: How much I thought I would enjoy it, on a scale of 1-5. This is not an objective quality rating in any way, and I rated anything I don't know much about a 2.
- Link: The webpage to see/find the work, if it has one
- Media: What kind of work it is (book, movie etc)
- Mood: The mood of the work.
- Tags: Various other info about a work, like genre.
- Notes: Little notes to myself with extra info. This isn't used for sorting.
How to add a new work
This is kind of a mess, and only works if you download and host a version of the files at https://github.com/sqbr/sqbr.github.io on your own computer or server.
- Rating: Mine are between 1 and 5. If you make yours higher, your recs will take precendence over mine. If you use something other than numbers I don't know what will happen!
- If you want to link to somewhere other than Disney Plus etc, put this link in the "Other (Link)" section. If you do click "Disney Plus" etc, anything in the "Other (Link)" field will be ignored.
- Works only have one media type. If you click more than one, all but the first will be ignored.
- Works can have multiple tags and moods.
Once you have filled in all these fields, click "submit" and make sure the code looks about right. Once it does, paste it into the "bookshelf" array in the javascript.js file.
Wouldn't this be better if you...
Probably. I threw it together in a day or two. If you want to make a better version, feel free. Javascript isn't too hard, if you're generally familiar with programming, and there's a bunch of tutorials around. Even if you don't want to learn javascript you can probably figure out how to edit my tag list etc. Just don't forget to add commas, that's the cause of half my errors.
